[adult swim] Streaming App Redesign

PROJECT BRIEF
We were tasked with working as a team to develop a streaming app solution for cord cutters (users without a cable account) to have access to [adult swim] content. Our deliverables for the project included user research, information architecture, interaction design, usability testing, and visual design.

My role for this project included project management, competitive analysis, brand analysis, user research, visual design, prototyping, and usability testing.
THE PROBLEM
Adult Swim wants to get away from an ad-based business model and re-engineer their app to allow cord-cutters to access all their content, ad-free, via a premium service. They also want to help users new to their programming discover new shows and share clips with their social networks.
ANALYSIS + USER RESEARCH
We began our process by conducting competitive/comparative analysis and user research so that we could identify best practices and begin to understand the mindset of the [adult swim] viewer. Our research strategy included talking to stakeholders, administering an online survey, searching social media and forums for user feedback, and one-on-one interviews with users.
PERSONAS + SOLUTION
Based on the findings from our user research, we were able to develop personas and devise a solution for our users.
SKETCHING + WIREFRAMING
In developing the solution, our process included ideation and sketching to create wireframes and ultimately high fidelity comps of the [adult swim] streaming app.
Starting with sketching, our goal was to get our ideas down on paper in order to think through possible solutions and visualize the potential flow and layout of the app.
We then moved on to wireframing where we sought to fine tune the layout and elements of the app. During this stage, we collaborated and focused on incorporating best practices learned during our competitive analysis and insights gained from the user interviews.
SITE MAP + USER JOURNEY/FLOW
We also defined the information architecture and interaction of the app via a sitemap and the user journey and flow for Bruce, our Former Fan persona.
PROTOTYPING + USABILITY TESTING
We built phone and tablet prototypes based on our personas and begin usability testing of the app with our high fidelity comps. We conducted two rounds of testing and iterated upon our design based on the findings. One of the key outcomes from testing was the addition of progressive onboarding to better acquaint the user with the app’s features.
